CJ Griffin, Partner and Director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, was quoted in a Politico New Jersey Playbook article “Did state legislators just hide the existence of their shore homes?” The article discusses a resolution passed by the Senate and Assembly that no longer requires lawmakers to disclose their home addresses on financial disclosure forms.

I’m no lawyer, so I contacted attorney and transparency advocate C.J. Griffin, who also read the resolution to mean that lawmakers no longer have to disclose whether they even own a second home.

“Even if you accept they need protection of their home address for safety reasons, it seems a little overkill and shocking that they wouldn’t disclose how many properties they own,” Griffin said. ”It’s a basic thing that we should be able to know how many assets our elected officials have and how those assets change over the years.”
