Overview

Amanda J. Massey (née Muhaw) is counsel in the firm’s Family Law practice. She has devoted the entirety of her practice to issues stemming from familial relationships of all origins, whether individuals are entering into a marriage, already bound by marriage, or bound by parentage or property alone. Amanda handles all aspects of family law matters, whether by way of litigation, negotiation, or alternative dispute resolution. She has represented individuals of various economic means and sexual orientation across the state, handling complex, high-conflict litigation as well as settlement negotiations. Amanda is sensitive to the various issues present in each matter, advocating with the intensity and compassion necessary for each client.

Amanda’s experience in family law spans over a decade, including handling the following matters: negotiation and drafting of prenuptial agreements; the dissolution of marriage; child custody issues; the establishment or modification of child support and/or spousal support; equitable distribution; non-dissolution matters; and domestic violence. She regularly appears before the Superior Court of New Jersey, Family Part. Amanda also serves as an Early Settlement Panelist in Monmouth County where she volunteers her time to assist matrimonial matters work towards resolving the issues.

Upon graduation from law school, Amanda served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable James J. McGann, J.S.C., in the Special Civil Division of Monmouth County. Halfway through Amanda’s clerkship, Judge McGann was reassigned, and Amanda concluded her clerkship handling Post-Judgment Matrimonial matters and Juvenile matters. During her clerkship, she additionally had the honor of assisting the Honorable Lisa P. Thornton, P.J.F.P. and the Honorable Kathleen A. Sheedy, J.S.C. on various matrimonial matters.  She also served as a Court Mediator for the Special Civil Division. Amanda’s experience as a judicial law clerk working on family law matters provides her with valuable insight in navigating the courts on behalf of her clients.

She was raised in Howell, New Jersey with deeply rooted connections to Monmouth County. She is a third generation Monmouth County resident and continues to reside there.

Amanda currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Paralegal Studies Program at Brookdale Community College where she teaches family law.

"An individual’s family, however family defined by them, is their single most important asset. My job is to help a client achieve the best possible outcome in an otherwise unfortunate situation, while providing them with the guidance necessary to navigate the process in a manner which they understand. Whether we are discussing child custody issues or the division of assets, I understand the complexity of these issues and advocate on their behalf in a manner best suited to their needs."
