Overview
As chair of the firm’s Employment & Labor practice, Samuel J. Samaro brings his extensive background in litigation and counseling to serve companies across a variety of industries. With more than 30 years of experience providing compliance advice and litigating labor and employment cases of all types, he is regarded for his strategic counsel and collaborative approach. Sam has been designated a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey since 2008 and served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee from 2010, when it was first established, until 2024.
Sam’s employment and labor practice is focused on the representation of management, including the strategic defense of discrimination claims, disability claims, retaliation, and whistleblower claims. He is adept at resolving sensitive matters, through litigation and alternative dispute resolution, regarding state and federal employment claims involving Title VII and New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD). Additionally, he works with employers on contract negotiations, compensation disputes, and employment policies. Sam is diligent about staying current on the ever-changing rules and regulations facing employers and is equipped to advise clients on the most recent types of claims arising from pandemic-related issues such as vaccination mandates and remote work policies.
In addition, Sam practices in the area of commercial torts, where he has represented companies, primarily as plaintiffs, against businesses and individuals who have committed fraud, stolen or misused company assets, overcharged for services, interfered with contracts, violated intellectual property rights, or refused to pay debts without legitimate basis. His team has had great success in these areas, representing companies large and small and recovering millions of dollars in recent years.
Sam has been involved in numerous matters involving high-impact issues, including the firm’s representation of a major New Jersey media company before the Supreme Court of New Jersey in an access to government records case. The resulting opinion, North Jersey Media Group Inc. v. Township of Lyndhurst, 229 N.J. 541 (2017), is one of the most significant Open Public Records Act decisions in New Jersey history.
Sam is proud of the results he has achieved for clients, some of which are noted here. Of course, each legal matter is unique on many levels, and past successes are not a guarantee of results in any other pending or future matters.
